No Rest For the Weary

Dear Readers,

This week begins an all out sprint of travel and activity that will take place over the next 6 weeks! Aubri and I will be traveling to a verity of places, hosting friends and family, and trying to do all the regular life things in between. I am ready to be tired!

Fortunately, these past two weeks had some real highlights. I recently found out that the local library system has copies of the run of Star Wars: Clone Wars comics published by Darkhorse in the early 2000s. These comics really stuck in my mind because of there vibrant art and seriousness (treating the War part of Star Wars with some real gravity, something I really appreciate). Reading these again has been a really refreshing thing that has reminded me a lot of what I loved about stories as a kid and love about stories now.

Chapter 25 is about two thirds complete. I am very confident that I will finish it before next Tuesday, and should hopefully have 26 mostly complete by the time the next news letter is sent out. We hope. Ultimately we will see what happens with the large amount of travel that we are doing, it will be interesting to see exactly what happens. I will also note that I have fallen slightly behind on posting the news letters to the website, so I also aim to catch up on that as soon as possible.

This Week’s Chapter

In every character arc, there comes a point in time when a character must make a choice that defines who that character will ultimately be. Chapter 21 is that moment for Tilsitar. She can resign herself to being a tool of violence or she can decide to pursue a different path.

We also learn a lot about Coraadrin and Colthan in Chapter 21. Though they are not warriors, that does not mean they are incapable of fighting. They participate in battle but it does not necessarily look like traditional combat. They take the skills they have and apply them as best they can.

Please feel free to share these newsletters with other people you think may be interested, and leave comments on the chapters!

“Up and quickly now,” Coraadrin said to Colthan, bending down to help him stand, “Your grief is warranted, but what may happen to us if Tilsitar is swayed again by the voice of her master to pursue again violence, I do not know. We must go to the new heavens for aid. I may be able to alleviate her suffering there and if not Ikata may be able to imprison her.”

Colthan stood slowly, with the aid of Coraadrin. He breathed deeply.

“You are right,” he said, drying his eyes, “I will retrieve her hammer.”

Coraadrin then made her way to Tilsitar. She still shook and faintly wept. The goddess of healing bent down and took Tilsitar up in her stone arms. The bellows woman’s body was limp against Coraadrin. She turned to Colthan…”

Something Extra!

This weeks something extra is the the Star Wars: Clone Wars trade paperbacks published in 2003 by Darkhorse I discussed in the opening of this newsletter. I specify the 2003 publications because there is another run from Darkhorse titled The Clone Wars published in 2008. As I said earlier, these comics and their art style really stuck in my mind when I read them as a child. I really enjoyed these stories and enjoyed revesting them recently.
